Egypt Establishes the First Biobank Unit in Middle East and Africa
Under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi President of the Republic Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to implement the reference genome project for Egyptians announced in March 2021 the Armed Forces established the first biobank unit fully automated in Egypt and the Middle East and Africa region within the Egypt Center for Research and Regenerative Medicine affiliated with the Armed Forces in cooperation with the German company Askion and the Egyptian company MiraLab.
The importance of the biobank unit is its ability to preserve and store all types of samples used in scientific research for many years thereby facilitating the process of studying biological samples without concerns of damage.
This new achievement is based on the political leadership's desire to upgrade the scientific research system in Egypt and the new Republic.
